Aggregate of Dust
Late at night, when he is finished
confronting the dream he has had
he drives to his family's home
in the night's extended silence.
He brings the garbage and cans
to the cellar. He cleans two forks
that are left in the sink. He leaves
his shoes in the room that was his
where the boxes are stored. Starting
in the kitchen, with his parents asleep
and with no sound or light from
outside to distract him from what
he has driven here to do
he begins to get rid of the house's
dust – estranged hair and food debris,
shed bits of skin, tracked-in soil.
